A Christmas blessing
By Georgie Horne
As a child I remember a very special Christmas. Even today I share the testimony of that Christmas at parties and special occasions, especially when I’m asked to share my most memorable Christmas as a child.
Times were hard for my Aunt Lena Mae, my mother’s sister, and Uncle John back in 1957. They were in a bind financially, and my aunt’s siblings and their families were coming to her house for dinner on Christmas day. She was a wonderful Christian lady, a prayer warrior; she had so much faith.
On Christmas Eve, Aunt Lena Mae and Uncle John were standing on their front porch watching their three children play in the yard. My aunt was telling my uncle how much she wished she had a chicken or some meat to make some cornbread dressing.
Just about the time she said that, she heard a flock of geese flying overhead and said, “Lord, I need one of those for my table for Christmas dinner.”
God heard her prayer. Two geese flew into each other and a wing on one of the geese broke. It fell into the field next to the house. My cousin, Waymon, ran into the field and got the goose for his mom. My aunt had a shouting time and we all had goose dressing for Christmas dinner.
God answered prayer and always does, even when the need seems impossible. He makes a way where there seems to be no way. All we have to do is believe.
