Let the Star-Filled Sky Speak
December 19, 2007
By James Fields
While living in Tokyo, Delores and I rarely saw the stars
and moon. Dense air pollution and frequent cloud cover obscured heavenly
objects from view. When we returned to America, I began thoroughly enjoying the
Lord's star-filled sky!
The star-filled sky speaks in God's behalf to us earthbound
humans.
The star-filled sky proclaims your God is great. "Lift
your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the
starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power
and mighty strength, not one of them is missing" (Isaiah 40:26, NIV). The
God who created the vastness or our universe is the same God who commits His infinite
power to guiding your life.
The star-filled sky proclaims God's blessing upon you will
exceed your expectations. God once told the childless Abraham to count the
stars. The Lord added, "So shall your offspring be" (Genesis 15:5).
Astronomers tell us the unaided eye sees about 2,500 stars. Modern technology
shows us millions of stars. If Abraham of old had counted all the visible
stars, he would have fallen exceedingly short of the number of descendants God
intended to give him. Next time things in life are going badly for you,
remember your God is able to do more than all you ask or imagine possible!
A "star" also played a key role in the events we
commemorate this Christmas. God used a different kind of star, one that could
point the way to the Christ Child, to guide the Wise Men.
"The star they had seen in the east went ahead of them
until it stopped over the place where the child was" (Matthew 2:9).
Have you found your way to Christ? Today would be a perfect
day to do so.
