Vantage point

Your revival profile

“What we need is a Holy Ghost revival.”

You’ve probably heard (or said) this at one time or another. The question is, are you willing to do what it takes to bring that revival?

Take the following personal inventory I have compiled from my study of and encounter with revival. (This is a representative list, not a comprehensive one.)

You really want revival if:

• You have a regular, daily prayer life in which you pray, almost without exception, for revival and the salvation of souls.

• You are a regular at your church’s prayer meetings.

• You are burdened for the lost.

• You are grieved by the immorality of society and lack of holiness among believers.

• You are more likely to see the need in your own life than to criticize others.

• Hard, truthful preaching doesn’t offend you.

• You no longer watch the clock, instead preferring long times in God’s presence.

• You have a sense of urgency.

• Worldly things and entertainments seem shallow and unfulfilling.

• You long to hear a word from God.

• You wonder about everyone you meet — the grocery clerk, the pizza delivery guy … everybody: Is his/her soul right with God?

• You long for Holy Spirit power.

• You find yourself praying for eternal things far more than material and temporary matters.

• Your heart is tender and you do not shrink from conviction.

The higher the number of these that apply to you, the stronger your revival profile. Do not feel hopeless if your score is low. Most Christians have low scores on this list. History shows that it only takes a few believers, sometimes one, strong in these areas to precipitate revival. Determine, with God’s help, to work on those areas that don’t describe you. And pray for revival.
